Selling Your Property - Kitchen

The look of a kitchen can sell a home. If you can’t afford to completely re-fit your kitchen, make sure that it looks as up-to-date as it can. Now is the time to replace any broken cupboard doors or drawer fronts. If they look tired generally, you can paint them in a neutral colour to liven them up or just update the handles.

Do not keep any small animals in the kitchen - they could put buyers off. If your dogs or cats have their bowls and beds in here, then make sure that these are tidied away.

Try not to have a kitchen smelling of last night’s curry - or anything else which has a strong smell. If it does, use an odour-removing spray and leave a window open to get rid of the smell. Make sure that the bin is empty and clean smelling.

If there is enough space in your kitchen for a table and chairs, then put these in. Similarly, if your kitchen has a breakfast bar then have enough seating around it for it to look like a comfortable place to sit and have breakfast or a coffee.

Clear away the worst of the clutter - if possible get rid of it as buyers may want to look in the cupboards. Clean everything - especially the cooker if it is part of the sale, but also cupboards. If your worktop has seen better days you could change it. Make sure that the tiles are clean and shiny - use a grouting pen to whiten old, discoloured grout. Run your hands over surfaces - if they feel sticky or greasy, they need a good clean. Buyers will be looking for a modern-looking, clean and tidy kitchen which is welcoming and functional.
