Selling Your Property - Living Room

If your living room has a tendency to collect piles of magazines, papers and various odds and ends, clear these away. Clear out the clutter and cover any tatty old furniture. Large, neutral coloured throws over seating immediately livens up a tired living room. Make sure that any collections of ornaments are displayed neatly.

Try to cover any stains on a carpet with a rug. You could have soft furnishings and carpets professionally cleaned if they need it. If the carpet is terrible, you could replace it fairly inexpensively with a neutral coloured one. If you have wooden floors check that these do not need any maintenance.

Look at the furniture arrangement through the eyes of a buyer and work out whether the room could be shown off better with a different arrangement. Dress the room with little touches such as candles and cushions.

Whether you have a living/dining room or separate rooms, clear away any junk that has accumulated. Make sure that the dining table is clean and has a simple centre piece. You do not need to dress the table - unless you have some beautiful crockery that you like to show off.
